After two matches against lower level rivals, both Liège and Franconville, the USO Mondeville took on a completely different level, Saturday 16 September 2023. Chartres was forced to cancel the meeting initially scheduled for Sunday 17 September, after several cases of Covid, Morgan Debrosse canceled a trip to Landerneau in a short time.

Liège was scheduled to start and test our project. I thank Franconville for coming to the Palais des Sports because it was not easy to find a team that agreed to play on Thursday, but we were able to win easily. Against Landrno, it was our first match of action.

Breton women took the lead, but only by a small margin. They finally won by ten points, one of the biggest gaps in the match, on very defensive grounds (59-49).

Without Ashten Brechtel, who will arrive at the weekend crowned New Zealand Player of the Year, and retaining Adele Driano Tricant, Mondville put up a good fight against the Women’s League side. “It was really interesting,” Morgan DeBrosse recalls. We were on the road map in terms of intensity and defensive production, because we knew how to upset them in sequence. »

Weak title

Mondville had to measure himself, it was over. He added: “Everyone came out of this match happy because it showed us our flaws and reassured us about our strengths. » Landrno faced the Mondeville with their smaller physical dimensions. Under pressure, Lucille Jerome’s partners (15 points) made difficult shots and achieved only 30% success in the exercise.

We know that we will not be the most intense team in the tournament, everyone will put us on that. You have done us good.

But Mondeville can be happy to leave their rival with 59 points. Despite some risks in this setup that is far from complete, the roadmap is generally being followed. “We saw during the first two games that we have the ability to quickly bring ourselves forward and find shots with the first goal. And when we want to stop him, we will have to have other strengths. The team is not hierarchical yet. I have no concerns. »

A preparatory match or two matches?

Julie Bjelica, who has returned to action, will have an important role to play, as will Ashten Brechtel, who is 196cm tall. Mondeville still has time to find the right settings. His first match will not be played until October 7, 2023 against Chartres. “With the playoffs, the start of the season will be less dry and dry than it was in NF1. »

On Saturday, September 23, Mondeville will face INSEP, as part of its preparations. Morgan DeBrosse will be hoping to make amends against Chartres in the meantime. The competition will resume with the French Cup and a trip to Strasbourg on Saturday, September 30.
