A 6.3-magnitude earthquake hits central Japan

The earthquake hit the northern Ishikawa region in central Japan. There was no immediate tsunami warning issued.

A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck the northern Ishikawa prefecture Central Japan This Friday, May 5th, according to the National Weather Service, without any immediate tsunami warning.

The quake occurred at 2:42 pm (7:42 am Paris time) at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the same source.

Landslide risk

Express train traffic between Nagano and Kanazawa, a popular tourist area, has been halted, according to Japan Railways.

The earthquake reached level 6 on the Japanese Shindo scale, which rose to 7, in Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, which means it could trigger major landslides.
