Victor Campenaerts wins Overijse, ahead of Norway’s Rasmus Teller

Victor Campenaerts (Lotto-Dstny) won the 63rd edition of the Course des Raisins on Saturday, a one-day (1.1) rider race over 185.6 kilometers around Overijse, in Flemish Brabant.

The 31-year-old from Antwerp won a two-man sprint with Norway’s Rasmus Teller (Uno X), who isolated himself at the head of the race. Jasper de Buest, his compatriot and Campenaerts teammate, finished third. This is the first victory for a Lotto Dstny driver since his success in the Tour de Louvain (1.1) last August. It was his ninth career win and his first of the season.

Dietmar Ledgen, Andreas Gomann, Abram Stockmann, New Zealander Ryan Christensen and American Gage Hecht made up the first breakaway of the day. They were joined a little later by the Norwegian Jonas Abrahamsen and the Estonian Karl Patrick Luck. The leading seven men were caught 108 kilometers from the finish, on the 13th climb of the day.

Then a detachment of 21 passengers formed. Victor Campenaerts tried to isolate himself at the front, but it was finally Dries de Bondt, Jasper de Buest, Lionel Tamino and Rory Townsend who broke away just before the S turn at Overijse, before being caught. Campinartes did not give up and finally managed to escape with Teller at the end.

He succeeds Victor Campinaerts of France, Mattis Leuvel. Remco Evenepoel won in 2021.
