The diver tries to remain calm. “It’s strange how something this big can sneak up on him so easily. When I’m in the water with one of these I know there’s not much I can do but be quiet, be ready, and be on the lookout. I have a bayonet, a knife and a bulletproof vest that serves as protection.” says Nock.

It’s not his first encounter with a shark. Usually, a hunter is more concerned about his catch. But when he encounters great white sharks, he takes care to get himself to safety. Nook has managed to photograph a total of seven great white sharks up close in the past few months. “I see great white sharks less often than other sharks. But if you do, it’s a real adrenaline rush.”

Until now, his fellow had always been able to rescue the harpoon hunter from the water at the right time.
