Action sequence on Monday, August 29 Port-la-Fort when the sailing team, led by Yannick Pistavin, slowly pushed a monohull in the colors of Vendean poultry maker Matre CoQ, out of the CDK yard. Focused on the mission but with joy in their eyes, the men and women of the team shared this special event with a delegation of Matre CoQ representatives.

Tomorrow is a puzzle and today?

Yannick Pestavin: “Today is a very nice and great first gift for my partner Matre CoQ as well as for me. IMOCA

New, built together. Rejoice on this day. It’s a beautiful birth even if our baby takes a little longer than expected to get off the construction site. The Matre CoQ V is the result of a team effort that started 17 months ago when Matre CoQ management asked me what I wanted to do after winning the Vende Globe. “Why don’t you win it again” I suggested to them. “Banko…” they answered me. What could be better than facing challenges?

Dreaming together, sharing with as many people as possible, inspiring, inspiring…it’s all on the journey. The excitement of the latest Vende Globe proves that our community needs these spaces. If, with Matre CoQ, we’ve inspired and allowed certain things to happen, Vende Globe 2024 is a winner. The ultimate victory is the result of many actions and decisions… The first stone was making the bold decision to go back there when it would be comfort, for Master CoQ for me, to stay there. Then after 14 months on the job. Today we present to you our boat. Tomorrow will be the time for fine-tuning and reliability. Then the competition. »

Exactly, the first major showdown in less than two months…

“All the intermediate stages are important and focused on the sole goal of starting on Sunday, November 10, 2024. I have already been asked questions: ‘But, Yannick, Rum Road
Rum Road
#RouteDuRhum
? Of course, as a competitor, I want to take part in this amazing transatlantic race alone. Next November, I will give it all up. Ranking is what we run after and what is visible. But as a project manager and athlete, I also know that the experience gained is worth its weight in gold. With a little hindsight and work on myself, I know how much patience the mother of wisdom is…”

Why is the Matre CoQ V launch delayed?

“Boat building is a teamwork with the intervention of several providers. While some tasks follow each other, others can be done jointly… At certain times during the composite shipyard, there have been splits in personnel due to Covid. In addition, I wanted to change the architects’ plans to adapt Maitre CoQ V for individual use, while the 11th Hour 2 plan was designed for the crew. The modifications also took time. It should also be noted that our team remained, in terms of the number of people working on a daily basis, identical for the previous campaign. This launch is not late within the scope of the departure of the Vende Globe in 2024. Our best IMOCA is done well in an arena, rather than afloat where everything is more complicated, especially for the technical team … Let’s not get the wrong target!”

Master CoQ V vs. Master CoQ IV?

“The cockpit is more enclosed than in the previous boat. It is a real added protection for the captain. The Matre CoQ V hull is narrower. The rudders have longer side profiles. The shims are larger. In the upgraded length, these new shims are 7 meters where, in the previous CoQ Master , was only 4.5 meters. This generation of chips flies, faster and faster in transitions. Performance is superior in theory. In terms of the interior, I learned the lessons of another Vende Globe. I can do everything from my good seat.”

What are the main phases of the project?

“We got the molds back from the 11th Hour race team. So the CDK teams were able to very quickly start laying the hull and surface. Cooking done, then it was always time to remove the mold from the hull. Very important because the slightest flaw can lead to long finishes and weight Extra… This was done and done well thanks to CDK expertise, the boat revealed its appearance during deck. There, part of the puzzle is revealed when the deck sticks to the hull and bulkheads placed inside. Next, there are the finishing touches, but it’s Too horrible for the teams now working in a closed, split boat.Too restrictive. In parallel to this compound work at the CDK Shipyard, my team orchestrated everything, made parts, made white kits, etc so that everything fit together perfectly when They be able to get the boat back, early August. To save time for a moment. Niral we don’t have any.

I would like to salute every member. Huge hats to them. I know how much they invested. They gave freely of their time and energy and shared a lot of good ideas to make our proud ship run well. Thank you.

Thanks also to the CDK teams at the shipyards who have worked so hard over the past few months as well as all of our service providers.”
