Nuki Keypad 2.0 Test: A well-thought-out accessory for the Nuki Smart Lock

Like its predecessor, the Keyboard 2.0 is only available in black and takes the form of a plastic rectangle. We would have appreciated the presence of more premium materials, like the brushed metal featured on the 3.0 Pro version of the lock. The keyboard is compact (118 x 29 x 21 mm) and light in weight, which makes it easy to install. No need for a power supply: it is powered by four AAA batteries that are supposed to offer 12 months of autonomy according to the brand, six months less than the previous version.

Before purchasing this product, check the house rules in your building. Some secretaries are difficult to solve when it comes to adding an item outside of the apartment. The keys ranging from 1 to 9 are recessed in the center for added comfort. Above, a series of six white LEDs indicate code entry progress.

To install, note that the keyboard must be placed near the lock, with the two devices connected via Bluetooth. If the entrance is not protected from rain, this should not be a problem. The keyboard 2.0 is IP54 certified and thus theoretically able to withstand bad weather. Once the location is found, the mounting plate should be affixed. A strong 3M adhesive is provided for the job. To ensure perfect adhesion, we recommend dusting the bonding surface, or even degreasing it with isopropyl alcohol.

Then just press the pad hard enough for ten seconds and you’re done. It’s a pity Nuki didn’t provide an (even optional) threaded plate system, because it’s not always easy to find a soft spot in a rather old home. The rest happens in the app.

From the home screen, go to the Manage my devices menu, then select the keyboard and follow the guide. The procedure is simple: it goes through generating a six-digit security code, then pairing the keypad and lock. If you’re attentive, you’ll notice that the keyboard has no zeros. The brand claims that this is a precaution to prevent users from choosing a 000000 type code. The next process logically is to register the first fingerprint, which is fairly quick. In about ten minutes, you’ll be here to find your fully functional Keyboard 2.0.
