Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez: nearly 3,000 sailors raced in 2 (…]

The new formula of the supercharged Voiles de Saint-Tropez has, more than two weeks ago, proven itself for the third time, rewarding sailors and owners, such as the well-equipped public, insiders or beginners, with a unique show on the water, and a festive and friendly atmosphere on land. 214 modern and classic boats, manned by more than 2,100 sailors in the first week, gave way to 800 sailors and 46 maxi yachts last week.

Everyone managed to race fairest, according to safety rules, within groups that harmoniously respect the size and gauge characteristics of each sailboat. Les Voiles, after two years very constrained by the pandemic, has also brought back with its brand that inimitable spirit of fair play and friendliness associated with a passion for yachting. The sea, the sun and the grandiose boat races celebrated the 160th anniversary of the founding of the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, organizer of the event, under the leadership of President Pierre Rowenson and his teams.

Each of the two weeks saw the world’s most beautiful yachts, classic and modern, sometimes competing in the wind, sometimes in light weather. 46 of them are called maxi because of their size of over 60 feet, and constitute one of the largest concentrations of this type in the Mediterranean. Last clue on the beach circuit, Saint-Tropez saw Capricorno crowned, the best maxi of the season coordinated by the International Maxi Association. The IMA also took advantage of the dynamics of Les Voiles to open its entrances to Multihulls and foilers, who were now invited to the starting lines at Saint-Tropez.

Pierre Rowenson, President of the Naval Society of Saint-Tropez

“This two weeks has completely met our expectations. We are all happy. Everyone, marine teams, partners, sailors, and all those who have invested themselves, who have departed. We spoiled the summer weather. In all, we welcomed 260 modern, classic and maxi boats, and nearly 3,000 sailors It’s a success. What’s more, we really discovered the spirit of Nioulargue, the party, the conviviality, the great atmosphere in the evening around the bar. Our second week finds its mark, with many spectators, on the seawall and the pier of Jean Raffel. All is not Perfect and we know the points we need to improve. But our efforts in preserving the environmentenvironment

It bears highly tangible and measurable results, especially with the implementation of the Electric Mud Geolocation, without any impact on funds, and thanks to the dematerialization of our documents, race notices, endorsements, registration forms and results, all can only be accessed digitally. I think next year will be better. The Magic Carpet 3 and Tango crew who participated in the first Club 55 Cup dedicated to Maxis were delighted to compete in this unique moment in Les Voiles and then met Patrice de Colmont for a rare moment of participation. It is important to find this spirit in the second week which is inherently more professional than the first. George Corhill teams are doing a great job. They have been able to launch and validate the races and it is their honour. I think Les Voiles has been wonderfully revived after two years of Covid…”
