Apple is bidding farewell to a much-loved feature

This is the end of My Photo Stream, a token function since 2011. This allowed you to sync up to 1,000 recent photos on different devices for free.

July 26, 2023 will mark a watershed for iCloud users: Apple announced, As Nomirama saysStop My photo stream Or “My Photo Stream,” a premium feature launched in 2011.

This feature allowed users to sync for free Up to 1,000 photos taken in the last 30 days between different iOS, iPadOS, and macOS devices. Generally speaking, Apple now recommends users to switch to iCloud Photos.

The offered 5 GB will not be enough, far from it

As you can imagine, the 5GB of storage that iCloud provides for free is not enough to hold the same amount of photos and videos.

For example, if a user has approximately 300 GB of photos and videos, they will need to upgrade to the larger iCloud + plan at 2 TB at $9.99 per month to keep the equivalent of their available space. My photo stream Apple also offers smaller plans with 200GB for €2.99 per month and 50GB for €0.99 per month.

Apple saves money

It should be noted that these storage limitations are not unique to Apple. Google also ended the unlimited storage available on Google Photos, and before that, Flickr did the same. These changes reflect economic development, but also the desire to promote paid subscriptions, which are an important source of income for these companies, especially Apple.

If you don’t want to pay for an iCloud subscription, you also have apps like Google Photos or Amazon Photos (with unlimited storage for Prime subscribers). That’s not all as you can store photos and videos locally, on a NAS for example.
