Starfield Outpost: How to build your own base and hire employees?

The rest will follow after this announcement

If your dream home is a good investment for a nice, useful place in Starfield but it’s not a priority, Outposts shouldn’t be neglected. In addition to providing you with a quick strategic travel point, it allows you to make a lot of money if you exploit it correctly.

How to create your own outpost?

  • Basic requirements : Join the Constellation at the beginning of the main story and talk to Vasco.

As you explore different planets, you’ll come across existing outposts that don’t belong to you. You can use it as a fast travel point but the best you can do is build your own base. The functions are not as advanced as in Satisfactory for example, but you can still manage many things: place workbenches, generate energy, create a defense system or even harvest resources using machines.

  • When you find a place to put your base (see section “What is the best place to put your outpost”), all you have to do is…Open your scanner With F (PC) or LB (Xbox),
  • In scan mode, press R (PC) or X (Xbox) to do this Place a beacon,
  • You can now reconcile the different tabs of the file Build mode To build your first residential units,
  • If you want to decorate indoors, you must exit building mode, enter the building and reopen it,
  • Different modules can fit together easily,
  • Please note that some of them require energy to operate: you must then power them by placing solar panels on the roof, for example.

What’s the best place to put your outpost?

You can choose almost any planet, land on a flat surface (it doesn’t work on water for example) and plant your base there. The key is still to go to a planet with great resources to exploit.

On your ship, you can scan the planet before landing on it. You will find all the necessary information on the left of your screen and what you want to prioritize are the following conditions:

  • No severe weather (extreme cold, drought, storms, etc.),
  • Useful resources for exploitation (to start, you definitely need aluminum for example because this component is required in many constructions),
  • Good climate: a planet with water and enough oxygen,

Note the location of your outpost

Remember the planet you placed your outpost on as well as its system so you can find it easily when you want to return. Alternatively, by opening the star map, you can zoom out as much as possible and move your mouse over each system/galaxy to see if there is an outpost (the counter is shown on the left, in the menu).

How to hire employees?

Above all, it is necessary to build Crew cabin At your outpost otherwise you won’t be able to hire employees there. Open the build menu via your scanner, and in the Miscellaneous tab you will find the Crew Cab. It is better to place it indoors (similar to an office). Allows you to assign employees to your outpost.

Thanks to this, you can now see your outpost in the Crew Roster menu (Main Menu > Bottom Left Ship Menu > Crew). Click on a member of your crew and assign them to the location of your choice.

Here’s how to recruit new members:

  1. In New Atlantis, the engineer in front of your ship will tell you that you must make a trip to the Viewport to recruit people,
  2. Go down the slope and continue to the left to see the large building called “Viewport“,
  3. This is actually a bar where some interesting NPCs can give you quests or get you recruited,
  4. Look for NPCs with real names and not ones with the word “citizen” above their heads;
  5. By talking to them, you will see their skills displayed at the top right and you will then have the option to recruit them.
