After building a space unit and air and water rockets, and after getting started with robotics, the Abamite guys did pool training, like astronauts.

Like last year, Operation Pamiers in space was a real success. Young Appameans participate in various workshops held on websites dedicated to entertainment. At the Neptunia Naval Center, they were introduced to training in the water, as astronauts do. Discover the feeling of weightlessness in their scuba gear.

“The aim of this workshop is to put the children in the shoes of an astronaut in order to repair a part of the International Space Station,” explains Stephane Brittain, Director of the Sports Department at Pamiers. For this, they will be completely immersed in the water as astronauts do when they train before going into space. And so children can discover that feeling of weightlessness while still being safe along the rope.”

Various audiences were welcomed throughout the afternoon in groups of 6 to 8 students. To kick-start the initiative, they had their first space station intro workshop. The speaker from the Planetary Science Society briefly explained the astronaut’s mission and the training he had to follow. Then they followed a workshop given by the diving club animators on breathing and handling the scuba tank and regulator to learn how to breathe underwater. Finally, one by one, they jumped into the large pond, with a supervisor to carry out their mission. A way for most of them also to get baptism is diving and who knows, to discover the calling.
