New Zealand Celebrates Unlocked Barbecue, Masks And New Coronavirus Cases
Big party with lots of giggles – all without masks. No, unfortunately we are no longer used to images like this. Corona has brought us too much under control. Right now, nothing works for us without protecting the face and social distancing.
The barbecue took place in New Zealand, which celebrated National Day on February 6. The video was recorded by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern (40 years old), and also commented: “You can see a lot of people behind me.”
Ardern happily leads the barbecue, talking here and there with people, including Environment Secretary James Shaw (47), who stands behind a barbecue.
Corona is under control
While almost the entire world is in fairly tight lockdown, New Zealanders are celebrating as if there was no pandemic. In fact, Corona has practically escaped the island. Only in April 2020 did the curves rise slightly with up to 90 new infections per day.
The country managed to avoid the second wave completely. In total, New Zealand has recorded only 25 deaths from Corona.
On top of the success is Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. With a mixture of serious determination and attention, she faced the pandemic – along with “Team New Zealand”, which has a population of five million in the island nation.
Serious and caring
Aside from immediate closures when cases arise, the prime minister has accompanied her people during the crisis via social media. She assured the children that the Easter bunny was allowed to come because it was methodically closely related in the end. Those who arrived immediately had to stay in quarantine at the hotel for 14 days.
The fact that New Zealand is a remote and sparsely populated island helped her in her successful containment strategy.
In order to sponsor it, Ardern has already been given a new name on Instagram: “Aunt Cindy”. On Twitter, the Goodable portal that distributed the video praised the prime minister: “This is what leadership looks like.” (Gf)
