The Auckland club edged out the New South Wales Waratahs 41-12 in the Super Rugby quarter-finals on Friday.

The Auckland Blues edged the New South Wales Waratahs 41-12 in the Super Rugby quarter-finals on Friday at home at Eden Park, opening the doors to the semi-finals.

New Zealand winger Mark Tiley and his team-mates initially let their opponents run away 7-0 early in the game, before whipping up five converted attempts on the Waratahs, whose only win at Eden Park dates back to 2009.

Tilly scored Auckland’s fifth and final try, equaling Doug Howlett’s record of 12 tries in a Super Rugby season for the Blues in 2003. The winger had already scored four tries in one match in the past month: his choice was beyond doubt when the Blacks announced their squad for the Championship Rugby on June 18th.

The Blues are waiting for their opponent

The Blues will only discover their opponents in quarter-final after quarter-final this weekend.

Defending champions Canterbury Crusaders host Fiji Drua, while Waikato Chiefs host Queensland Reds and Act Brumbies will face Wellington Hurricanes in the other quarter-finals on Saturday.
