Anyone can live in a house. Zoo penguins now have an entire neighborhood to themselves!
After several months of construction, the zoo’s penguin home has reopened. New name, old residents: King, Rockhopper, and Humboldt penguins still live in Penguin-Kiez.
With its own snow machine, the house is perfect for hardcore wearers and is one of the coldest places in DC even in the middle of summer.
Zoo spokeswoman Philene Hutchmeister says the previous exhibit at the penguin’s home is no longer up to date.
There are now also stations you can touch, a hologram of a penguin and information panels in German and English. On the benches you can watch the penguins diving under the water.
Daily at 2pm there is a pending feed.
