Sailesh Abernethy wins his first Group race as Monaro Mia downs Sex On Fire in the Northern Trotting Oaks at Alexandra Park last week.

Feature race winners can come from anywhere and Monaro Mia is a great example of that. The Northern Trotting Oaks winner hails from Blenheim and her success last week was preceded by a maiden win at Kapiti Coast and a double at Manawatu meetings, hardly a normal path to a Group race win. Outside of three early occasions when driven by Merv Bryers, Monaro Mio has been driven right through by Sailesh Abernethy and the Oaks was his first Group race success.
