The last unbeaten horse to win the New Zealand 2000 Guineas was the high-class Sacred Falls, who won the Riccarton classic in 2012.
The son of O’Reilly began his career with victories at Ruakaka and Te Rapa in May and June, then won four stakes races in a row. He took out the Listed Northland Breeders’ Stakes at Ruakaka, then produced an extraordinary performance to win the Gr. 2 Hawke’s Bay Guineas after stumbling out of the gates. He won the Gr. 2 Sarten Memorial at his fifth start, then edged out a brave Oasis Rose to win the Gr. 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas.
That was his final New Zealand start, and he was transferred into the Sydney stable of Chris Waller for his three-year-old autumn. His Australian career produced further Group One victories in the Doncaster Handicap (twice) and the George Main Stakes, and he now stands at Waikato Stud.
