Taranto, Countdown: The Flying Boats Are Coming
Expectations are growing for the Italian Sailing Grand Prix, which is the only Italian event in SailGP, the F50 Flying Boat Championship, which in a week, 5 and 6 June, will see eight competitions in the Mar Grande di Taranto regatta tournament. National teams with the biggest sailing stars in the world: Olympic medals, world champions, ocean races sailors and America’s Cup winners from Australia, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Japan, New Zealand, Spain and the United States.

The SailGP Race Village in Taranto is already under construction these days on the waterfront, in the historic Rotonda Marinai d’Italia, in the heart of the city, a location with a breathtaking view of the Mar Grande, an ideal location for the sights of the SailGP region. Created in cooperation with Cantine San Marzano and with a refreshment area, Race Village will have free access and will, in accordance with infection control regulations, allow to follow live boat races commentaries and attend an award ceremony. Thanks to the collaboration with Kyma Ambiente – Amat Spa, it will be possible to take an official boat ride to watch the boat races up close.
Two formats have been proposed for this “experience on the water”, with tickets sold for days: “Basic” at 34 EUR and “Premium” at 68 EUR which provides an exclusive location on the perimeter of the competition in addition to a selection of snacks and drinks on board. Finally, private owners and riders will be able, upon reservation, to moor near the competition area in the spectator area to follow the boat races. Finally, there are several side initiatives for this event, such as the one organized by the Italian Maritime Association department in Taranto, which aims to discover hidden corners of the city’s coastline.
