Officially: Warren Gatland rejects the British Lions!

Wales coach Warren Gatland announced this week that he will not be coaching the British Lions.

In a column published in The Telegraph, Al-Fanni announced his decision.

He explains that he wants to deliver. Extracts:

“As a New Zealander, the British and Irish Lions have always held a special place in my heart. A few weeks ago, Nigel Walker, Director of the Welsh Rugby Union, asked me if I would put forward my candidacy to become coach of the upcoming tour of Australia in 2025.

It didn’t take long to get back into it. I told him I wouldn’t put my name forward. I’ve done my best for the Lions, but it’s time to move on.

Warren Gatland is now campaigning for current Ireland coach Andy Farrell to take over the British Lions. Extracts:

“I believe now is the opportunity for someone else to be manager and Andy Farrell will have my support for the job. “You cannot deny what Ireland has achieved as a nation in recent years and you are starting to see the fruits of alignment between the Irish provinces and the Union.

There is no doubt that Andy did a fantastic job. Although Ireland lost the quarter-final to New Zealand, it was an epic match and could have gone either way.
