Niantic reverses the path and increases the interaction distance between PokéStops and Gyms in Pokémon GO

After weeks of messages, hashtags, and even boycotts, Niantic listened to his community and decided to increase the backdoor interaction distance for PokéStops and Gyms on Pokémon GO. This change comes amid the worsening COVID-19 pandemic in many regions.

It all started when the Pokémon GO creator thought the pandemic would end, so there was no need to reward players with rewards and the need to walk to interact with PokéStops and Gyms.

In June, Niantic wrote in a blog post that starting in July, it will remove three key features from US and New Zealand players: reduce incense potency, reduce the frequency of gifts given by Buddy Pokémon, and return to standard distance when interacting with a PokéStop and gym.

The problem was this: With the increase in the states of the Delta variant, most players didn’t feel safe enough to go out and play Pokémon GO. YouTubers, influencers, and the community at large started a movement asking the developer to hear them using the hashtag #HearUsNiantic.

Finally, last night, the Pokémon GO creator wrote a statement saying that he would reverse his decision:

Coaches – We look forward to sharing our plans after the working group on September 1st, but don’t wait for one thing! Now 80 yards will be the primary reaction radius for PokéStops and Gyms around the world.

Thank you to everyone who made your voice heard. We heard you and understood that this was a welcome feature for many players. We’ll share more next week.

With this, players can return to the game and enjoy the application from a safer distance. As the Pokémon GO creator wrote, next week there will be more announcements about the game.
