As the NFL continues to expand internationally, this September the league will be in Cape Town with a weekend of fan events to celebrate the start of the 2023 season. The league is also expanding activities in Ghana and Kenya. However, there will be no games in Africa – at least for now.

On Saturday, September 16th and Sunday, September 17th, the NFL will host a variety of fan events as part of the NFL Africa program. According to the NFL, this commitment will extend across different markets and aims to promote football across the continent. On Saturday, September 16, The NFL Experience: Cape Town invites all South African American football fans to an event at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

The Vince Lombardi Trophy is on display in Africa

This event is designed to provide local fans with the opportunity to enjoy the full NFL experience. They can test their skills in interactive activities while learning more about the history of the league. Particularly special is the chance for fans to purchase authentic NFL memorabilia at the NFL Auction.

The Vince Lombardi Trophy will be on display surrounded by cherished memorabilia from the NFL world. In addition, there will be promotions related to Madden NFL 24, Pro Era, and Wilson football as well as authentic player jerseys from Mitchell & Ness and stylish apparel from Kingdom & Co.

NFL: Public Watch in Africa

On Sunday, September 17, the weekend will wrap up with a highlight: Watch the NFL Party in partnership with ESPN Africa, taking place at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheater. This exciting event begins at 5pm and combines live entertainment from NFL legends and South African notables with live coverage of a game from Week 2 of the current NFL season. The fans in attendance can not only watch the NFL game live, but also participate in various games for a chance to win prizes and giveaways.

Joining the fans is Osi Umenyiora, former New York Giants defensive end and two-time Super Bowl winner who is leading the NFL’s expansion efforts in Africa. “It will be exciting to see the NFL in South Africa in September and fans can look forward to a great show of American football in Cape Town,” said Omnyura. “We look forward to introducing the game to South African fans and promoting the NFL across the country. Fans – get ready, this is just the beginning! The NFL will see you again in September.”
