New Zealand – SS13: The Last for Craig Breen

New Zealand – SS13: The Last for Craig Breen

With 5.81km to go from the end of the loop, even though the rain had stopped, there was no doubt that the pilots still in the race should be eager to finish this grueling day and get back to the service park.

This final short Komokoriki was only supposed to be a formality, but everyone was still thinking Gus Greensmith got off the road during the first morning pass which led to the stage being cancelled.

Sebastien Ogier was one minute late at the start of the special after stopping too long in the contact section to check his Toyota and was handed a 10-second penalty.

As a final wink, the rain doubled after the top contenders had passed, before the leading trio of Rovanpera, Auger and Tanak took off. None of the three men took any chances, and the special went to Craig Breen who caught his second scratch. Kali Rovanpera could join Auckland content with an achievement and a world title within reach.

Sports hostilities resume tomorrow at 11:32pm French time for the SS14 – Whitford Forest (8.82km) match. Two episodes of two specials are on the program for this final day of racing.
