Race 1 starts at 5:19pm. Pick 6 starts on race 5 at 7:01pm with a $25,000 Guaranteed Pool

RACE 1: RICHARD THE THIRD (7) has been to the fore winning a recent workout, he still has a bit to learn but couldn’t have struck an easier field for his debut, he has the breeding to further and would only have to stay down to be very hard to beat. WINNING BONES (4) didn’t really cop the wet grass track last start his effort prior was much better, include him here and INESSA’S DREAM (1) showed a lot of grit on that same wet grass track at Wingatui, multiple include again.

RACE 2: PILCH (2) will appreciate getting away from the Canterbury maidens, he looks well placed from the handy draw. TIGER MOTH (10) still a work in progress off the unruly, he blew to bits last time but does possess some raw ability, B Orange takes over the steering and he will be put into the race at some stage, big watch.

RACE 3: Absolute last chance for MONGOLIAN MACHETE (3)he is not the bravest as evidenced by his effort last start, yes he was caught wide down the back but he was going backwards from the quarter, all that aside from barrier 2 and he strips fitter we see him leading and being too good, jury’s out for now. That gives TACTICAL CHANGE (2) some chance to cross the pole marker and get the suck along and reverse his current formline.

RACE 4: WHATWILLBEEWILLBEE (8) begun like a rocket on the grass last start before breaking and then rushing around to lead again, he only knocked up late to finish 6th, this is a big drop in grade and he gets his chance. MICKEY JAY (9) has blown to bits at his first 2 runs back, he is better than that, slight gear change and outside unruly draw will assist him, worth the risk.

RACE 5: PLAYBOY PRINCE (2) was well supported 2nd up after a spell at Methven, he didn’t get much luck from the 2nd row draw and is much better placed from his handy draw here, where he might take the sit behind stablemate CHIEF KAPAI (4)who is a different horse when allowed his own rules in front, they both should play major roles in the finish, also consider KANSAS CITY JIM (6) he was doing his best work late last start and this is his sort of field.

RACE 6: RAKAGEM (3) is getting stronger with each run, all of her starts have been from poor draws, she finally draws close in off the front, she is normally a quick beginner and should cross over easily then it’s all up to her, should be winning this. LIVING FANTASY (4) will come across with the inside mare and can lead if Matty Williamson so desires, she should appreciate the slight easing in class here. Don’t leave out TOP PLAY (15) he has more upside than most in this, he was just beaten by a nose last start and is good enough to overcome the poor draw.

RACE 7: IDEOLOGIST (5)has been battling at Southern headquarters from bad draws, he is drawn close enough off the front row to be sent early, he will appreciate the drop in quality and should be hard to beat. BELLA VELOCE (2) is another that has had no luck with recent draws, from the 2 hole she should get the run that she needs to produce her best, each way.

RACE 8: ZEDDIE MARIT (7) put it all together last start to get within a nose of winning last start from the 25 metre back mark, he is only 15 metres back here, should go one better. MISSALYSSA (3) is spending time in the barn of Amber Hoffman, this mare will enjoy the 2700 metres more than most, can still be a bit risky early but good enough to figure in the finish. IMRAN KHAN (1) and ROBBIEROYALE(5) are both racing in good form and capable of being thereabouts.

RACE 9:The 2700 metres will suit RED TERROR (3) he was a brave 2nd on the grass at Wingatui, he can push forward from the good draw and be very hard to run down. If LEADING THE WAY (1) is ever going to return to some form then it has to be here, he is back in class, draws the pole at his favourite track over his best distance, last chance for us. JACKS N JAZZ (6) was much more like his old self last start when 2nd, this is well within his capabilities, include in all combinations.

RACE 10: CANSTAR (4) was driven like the best horse when clearing maidens on the grass at Waimate last start, she will be driven similarly tonight and can measure up to the higher class here.CANDIDASA (3) went his best race on the course last start when finishing 2nd, he made his move with a lap to go and didn’t quit right to the line, coming his last half in under 58 seconds, he won’t have to improve much to take this. They went too quick for FIRST SON (5) on mile day, pacing 1.52.1 that is just not his go in life, he deserves another chance in this to make amends, worth including at odds. ULTIMATE SASSENACH (2) won with authority on the wet grass last start, the change in surface will pose no problems, Blair Orange sticks with her that is good enough for us.
