Couple finds giant potatoes in their garden – Overseas News
If you turn that greasy thing into french fries, an entire kindergarten might be bored!
Colin and Donna Craig Brown dug up giant potatoes in their garden in Hamilton, New Zealand. “Ugly Doug”, as the couple baptized, weighs an insane 7.8 kg.
Colin found the potatoes when he hit something big with the shovel while he was gardening. Then he and his wife scratched the floor – still not knowing what they were looking at.
The couple cut a piece, tried it and finally got to know the fries by their taste. “We couldn’t believe it,” Donna said. “It was just huge!”
New Zealanders found ‘Dog’ on August 30 this year. A lot has happened since then. On the other hand, Colin and Donna Craig Brown reported to the Guinness Book of Records. An official award as the biggest potato is still pending. But the odds are good: the current standard tuber weighs less than five kilograms.
Doug has already achieved some fame in New Zealand. We put a hat on it and post the photo on Facebook. “We’ll go for a walk and let him soak up some sun,” Colin says.

No joke: Garden enthusiasts even built a little buggy for Klops to pull. Curiosity is stored in the freezer because “Ugly Doug” is starting to smell a little.
It is still not clear what will happen to Rekord-Kolle. There are the first interested parties: a small brewery asked if they could make potato vodka from it.
Most likely, Colin and Donna Craig-Brown will keep the giant fries. “It’s one of nature’s fun little surprises,” says Colin.
