Garmin is rolling out an update to its health monitoring watches on par with Apple and Samsung
After the Venu 2 Plus, the electrocardiogram (ECG) function will come to another four watches from Garmin. The American manufacturer is updating its health functions… but not yet in France.
If Garmin dominates sports watch sales thanks to numerous training data, the American manufacturer was still a little behind when it came to health data. However, little by little, the company is catching up with traditional connected watch manufacturers such as Samsung, Huawei, Apple, Google and Fitbit.
This Tuesday, Garmin announced Deploy ECG function in multiple connected watches:
These are four smartwatches – available in several different sizes or materials – and all of them will be launched later this year. Furthermore, ECG was particularly anticipated on the Garmin Venu 3, as it was integrated into the previous generation of Venu watches, with the Garmin Venu 2 Plus. However, it has so far been the only fitness-oriented connected watch that takes advantage of ECG.
Now, by incorporating this measurement into its high-end sports models, the Epix Pro, Fenix 7, and Tactix 7, Garmin will allow its users to simply perform a 30-second ECG in order to detect possible cardiac fibrillation. ECG results will be viewable directly on the watch or within the Garmin Connect app. The data can also be transferred to a healthcare professional if the user wishes.
Electrocardiogram (ECG) function is only available in the United States
For now, this rollout remains limited, as only US models of Garmin watches are affected. The publication has not yet been announced for France. Remember, an EKG is a medical device, and in order for Garmin to ensure its dissemination, it must be validated by health authorities in various countries. The ECG function of the Garmin Venu 2 Plus, which was rolled out in January across the Atlantic, is still not available to French users of the watch. When asked if the ECG function is planned in France, Garmin has not yet responded to us at the time of publishing this article.
