Bentley was not on its first attempt at Pikes Peak by entering an unprecedented Continental GT3 for the 2021 edition of the iconic American event. In fact, the British luxury brand already holds two world records with the Bentayga as well as with the Continental GT, in the SUV and production car categories respectively. With the Continental GT3, it will be a very different story because Bentley is dealing with one of the main categories of the event: Time Attack 1.

The record is currently held by Frenchman Raphael Astaire, who set the fastest time in 2019 behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Turbo (9 minutes 23 seconds). New Zealand rider Rhys Millen will have to do better with his new mountain this year if he wants to win the trophy, but the nickname “King of the Mountain” has every chance of success. Because he knows climbing a hill is like the back of his hand, having already set several records there.

So far, Bentley has not yet revealed the technical characteristics of the car that will attempt to set a new record on June 27, during the 99th edition of Pikes Peak. We knew so far that the Continental GT3 should be equipped with a 4.0 V8 boosted biturbo engine, with petrol biofuel. The eight-cylinder engine, optimized for high altitude (race reach at 4,301 metres) ultimately generates no less than 750 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque, while the use of this biofuel reduces its polluting emissions by 85%.

Numerous aerodynamic parts added to the bodywork increase the Continental GT3’s downforce by 30% at high speeds, when the car is moving at a lower altitude (sea level). Advanced materials and modern manufacturing techniques are used to improve the Continental GT3. Created in partnership with specialists from M-Sport, this racetrack includes, for example, the 3D-printed Inconel exhaust manifolds by laser sintering in Akrapovič. This auto monster should blow our minds on June 27th during the 99th edition of Pikes Peak.
