XDefiant has hit back and accused it of copying Call of Duty: Ubisoft Defends Itself | X-Box
Ubisoft is undoubtedly one of the publishers that communicates more about their projects long before release approaches. While Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been officially still in development for 15 years, it's XDefiant that is back in the news today as the game has to be delayed once again.
XDefiant will likely be delayed again
XDefiant was announced by Ubisoft in July 2021, when the company announced that it was investing 20% of its capital in producing free-to-play games. While the game was initially scheduled to be released during the summer of 2023,
At the time of writing, there will be one week remaining for the release of XDefiant according to the timeline announced by Ubisoft. But today this seems completely impossible since no communication has been made about the game for a long time.
According to informed sources Tom HendersonXDefiant was scheduled to be released in the last week of February when that internal release date was announced by Ubisoft's financial results – a deadline that was clearly missed.
Is XDefiant looking to emulate Call of Duty? Ubisoft defends itself
Insider Gaming understands that XDefiant has missed dozens of internal targets over the past two years, including release dates, putting the game in the category of other Ubisoft games that continually remain in limbo.
Developers working on the project have become increasingly frustrated with the lack of progress, and in short, the game's flaws stem from the executive's desire to try to copy Call of Duty rather than build their own game.
Creatively, this is frustrating for the team, but technically, it also presents new challenges and becomes the main reason for delays. “Endless COD hunting and adding unnecessary stuff always breaks the current version,” one source said, often requiring days of patching the game.
The Ubisoft developers whom Tom Henderson says he contacted clearly wished to remain anonymous. But in any case, XDefiant will not be canceled and development will continue at the usual pace. It is likely that there are still several weeks or even months before the game is released.
For his part, Mark Rubin, executive producer of XDefiant at Ubisoft, refuted the delay due to the new features that were added to the game.
For your information, our delay is not due to new features. In fact, not much has changed from a gameplay perspective. The delay is due to the technical issues we discussed. Everyone who mentioned Call of Duty in Tom's report had significant memory loss.
Tom Henderson then responded that any XDefiant fan should be wary of Ubisoft's “open transparency” about the game because it would have “larger implications” and “don't reflect what's really going on” within the studio.
The executive producer promised that communication about the game should come “soon” and “most likely” within the next week. “I know we've been quiet, because, frankly, there's not much to say.” He pointed at the X.
To be clear, we don't sit down with the game to fix every little bug. No one releases perfect, bug-free games. We are doing our best, but it is not realistic to think so. We discovered major technical issues just before launch that we had to resolve.
This is what the team worked on. This includes not only minor bug fixes, but also major infrastructure and entire system fixes. The game remains the same as you actually played it and we tried to make it as enjoyable as possible, which we are sure of.
So, aside from launch questions, which I can't talk about, I'm happy to discuss anything related to the game.
For example, I can confirm that no effort has been made to integrate SBMM into the game. Our unranked playlists will still not contain SBMM and will get the variety of gameplay you see when there is no SBMM.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a great weekend and thank you all for following XDefiant with such passion! We love you all!
