WTA Auckland – Coco Gauff retains her title in New Zealand

The 19-year-old American, winner of the US Open last year, defeated Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, ranked No. 2 and ranked 25 in the world, in the final: 6-7 (4/7), 6-3, 6. -3.

The match could have been ended early if Coco Gauff had not missed three set points (she led by 3 points to 6 in the tie-break). The meeting lasted 3 hours and 35 minutes.

Coco Gauff, who also reached the finals at Roland Garros in 2022, added a seventh title to her record, in eight finals contested.

Elina Svitolina, 29, was playing her 21st final on the circuit and has 17 titles to her name. She returned to competition last year after maternity leave and won the Strasbourg Championship.
