We played Solar Crown Unlimited Test Drive: Our Impressions! | Xbox One

During Gamescom 2023, we were invited to try out the Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown demo. Accompanied by five team members, many points were raised that we will talk about immediately.

The Solar Crown is an event facing two clans, the Drinkers and the Streeters. The former has a taste for sophistication and classic elegance, while the latter is driven by more extravagant and underground street culture. Our choice is fast, it doesn’t matter if we ride in sneakers, as long as we cross the finish line first.

We start the session in our Solar Hotel room, fully customizable according to a team member, accessing the lobby. We then discover the avatars of our future opponents in the present. Multiple players can meet at this location, although the “bubble” only allows twelve to be seen at a time. We won our car, a stunning Lamborghini Huracan, reproduced with amazing precision, before joining our first race. For your information, more than thirty manufacturers have worked in close collaboration with the KT Racing studio to reproduce with extreme accuracy the hundreds of vehicles present at launch, both aesthetically and in terms of road behaviour, and it shows!

After the first race, we are invited to get a new car. We went to a dealership to purchase a beautiful Koenigsegg Agera R, and we felt the work the team does. The road behavior is very different from the Lambo. Even more so when we take small dirt roads. Driving sensations vary widely between AWD and RWD vehicles, making for a great console experience. Speaking of roads, Hong Kong Island, reproduced in 1/1 scale, offers us no less than six hundred kilometers of asphalt on an area of ​​​​eighty square kilometers. Enough to have many hours of fun while enjoying the landscapes around us, thanks to the improved WRC graphics engine.

Racing isn’t just the main point of TDU Solar Crown, because social life is just as important. In fact, we must participate in races in order to increase our reputation, both for the clan and to advance within it. Competing and winning against other competitors from the rival clan will propel us to the highest levels of fame, over the course of three months of seasonal rankings.

Finally, we know that dynamic weather will exist, with a daily cycle of forty-eight minutes, for the same server. The little plus is that all radios are synchronized between players. Is it possible to hold a singing competition among friends? It may rain frequently.

Unfortunately, we can’t give you an exact release date. Despite our kneeling and pleading with our team members, we only got a simple “sometime in 2024” answer on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Looking forward to the opportunity to travel the roads of Hong Kong Island!
