36° New Zealand Classic Course

UCI: 2.2

.
After two poor years with New Zealand participating almost exclusively, the New Zealand Classic is back on track this year as the stage race will once again welcome foreign teams. In the starting list we will also find a professional team for the first time since 2016, which is of course thanks to the promotion of the local Bolton Equities team which will undoubtedly affect a large part of the weight of the race.

However, outgoing winner Mark Stewart will not be entered, nor will 2022 Tour Greece winner Aaron Jett, who is preparing for the upcoming races starting with Cadel Evans; Mudgway and Ollie Jones (second last year) will continue to be great captains. Opposition should come from Thai Roojai who will join Carstensen and van Engelen, defectors from Bike Aid, or from Japanese Kinan led by still-rival Lebas, or from Australian St-George around local Campbell Pithie. Also watch out for young Jack Dragee, a Hagens Berman Axeon climber who will be racing for the New Zealand national team, and Josh Burnett (Bolton Equities), one of the promising young Kiwis.

The Classic route will already favor the mountaineers: if the route of Stages 1 and 3 and the final criterium are the same as last year, on the other hand, we will notice the cancellation of the initial team time trial, also a clear clarification of the hardening of the hardest of the third stage. In fact, for the three ascents of Te Wharau, the organization has added a finish atop Admiral’s Hill which will close the day out of 155km and 2800m of the advertised D+, and it should be decisive. The penultimate stage on the Wellington circuit will not be easy either and the great novelty of the course.
