Ukraine’s accession to NATO. And so Zakharova mocks Zelensky – World Affairs

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova sarcastically commented on the words of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, who said that in order for Kiev to join the European Union and NATO, it is necessary to get rid of certain convictions and expressions.

The Ukrainian leader, speaking at a conference of heads of foreign diplomatic missions, said that in order to achieve integration, ambassadors should get rid of the complex of the Third World country and forget about the phrases “this is impossible”, “this will not happen.”, “This is not ours” and “not our level”.

“And she has not yet revealed to her compatriots the main secret: if the wheels are painted red, then the car goes faster,” Zakharova wrote on the Telegram channel, mocking Zelensky’s words.

Zelensky also said Ukraine wants to have a clear perspective on NATO membership in 2022.

In December 2014, Ukraine abandoned the state of nonalignment, and four years later, the Verkhovna Rada adopted amendments to the constitution, guiding the country’s path to the European Union and NATO.

Ukraine became the sixth country to obtain the status of a NATO Enhanced Partner. The former Secretary General of NATO, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, said that in order to join the alliance, Ukraine must meet a number of criteria, the implementation of which will take a long time.

Experts believe that Kiev will not be able to apply for NATO membership in the next 20 years.
