How a small summer job took Catherine Bloomberg to her opposite spots before she returned to settle in Graubünden, in Ellans, on the banks of the Rhine.
Catherine Bloomberg’s favorite river for rafting is the Forward Rhine, with its own history giving rise to what is now known as the “Swiss Grand Canyon.”

Sitting on a bench in the sun, in front of the headquarters of Swiss River Adventures, the Ellans-based canoeing, kayaking, and canoeing company, Catherine Bloomberg stays Olympic-style calm amid the surrounding bustle. “Where do you leave your bag?” My helmet is pressing on me so hard! She is studying geography. “I never imagined I would make a living rafting. What started as a small summer job in Switzerland gradually affected my whole life,” says Catherine, laughing with brown eyes.
