Towards the departure of Ronan Ojara before the end of his contract?
Stade Rochelais manager Ronan O’Gara will coach the British Barbarians, who will challenge the All-Blacks XV on Saturday.
In response to a question via The Times, the Irish technician indicated that he was very interested in the position of coach of XV de la Rose.
It is clear that he does not hide his desire to coach the England national team. Extract:
“Yes, of course, I would be interested. It is a huge undertaking. I am Irish, and coaching England would have a special appeal. I will think long and hard about any country. They are all different, and they will have different answers.”
English rugby union has already targeted Ronan O’Gara to succeed Eddie Jones at the end of the 2023 World Cup.
Problem: Ronan O’Gara is tied to Stade Rochelais until June 2024.
New Zealander Scott Robertson was also cleared but the latter prefers to train in his country. Extract:
“My first choice is to be at home, then what are the other possibilities? If it’s England, Scotland, Australia or any other team, you should look into it. It’s a real honour to coach a national team. You’re not going to coach a single team for 20 years, so from You probably coach two teams. I’ve seen Steve Hansen, I’ve seen Graham Henrys, and many of our coaches have coached two national teams, the All Blacks as well. And Eddie is an excellent example. I just admire the people who have done that.”
