Titanic director James Cameron is bringing his blue heroes back to the big screen
Blue carpet in front of Zoo-Palast Berlin, blue heroes on display. The year-end blockbuster “Avatar: The Way of Water” had its German premiere on Monday night.
The movie is the sequel to Avatar (2009), the highest-grossing movie of all time, depending on how you count. It remains to be seen if the second part will also be a blockbuster. The first part made 3 billion dollars! Part two starts worldwide this week.
The 3D scene “Avatar: The Way of Water” is definitely worth a look. The sci-fi thriller, which runs for more than three hours, will hit cinemas eight years later than planned – the latest due to the coronavirus. “Titanic” director James Cameron reportedly shelled out about $250 million for the production. His comment was “Fucking cost!” Well, the production studio expects to gross at least $2 billion. So the pressure is correspondingly high.
Despite the high production costs, it has really paid off, at least for viewers. This time it is about major issues such as family ties, the loss of a beloved homeland, environmental protection and nature conservation, and the fight against the enemies of natural peace. The Forest Dwellers (Jake Sully and Neytiri with their kids – yes, they actually have some now!) unite with the Reef Peoples and bravely put up this fight.
I don’t want to reveal too much here, but at the end of “Avatar: The Way of Water,” director James Cameron reprises the drowning ending from his blockbuster “Titanic” (1997). With other scenes as well, he built a bridge for his earlier works such as “Terminator” (1984) and “Aliens – The Return” (1986).
Avatar: The Way of Water cost $250 million
The fast-paced 3D movie boasts high viewing values - with detailed landscape panoramas, breathtaking flight sequences and must-see action scenes. In Germany, children over the age of 12 are allowed to see the movie “Avatar: Waterway”, and the Americans are more strict. Parents are cautioned that some of the content may not be appropriate for children under the age of 13 (PG-13 – “Severe Parent Warning”).
Zoe Saldana, playing Neytiri, sings “Song Chord” by film composer Simon Franglen and in this way guarantees beautiful moments and great feelings.
Filming began in September 2017, initially in Manhattan Beach, California, Los Angeles, and New Zealand. After about 14 months, James Cameron announced that filming with the main cast was complete.
In fact, the “avatar” should be a trilogy. But now it is said that there can be even five parts – each in a cycle of two years.

At the premiere in Germany, there were kisses for the fans, among others from premiere guest Simon Tomalla. Also in attendance were fellow actors Ken Duquesne, Tom Walashiha and presenter Dinja Hayali.
“Avatar” actors Sigourney Weaver and Sam Worthington sent video greetings to Berlin. They were unable to attend because the US premiere was on the same day in Los Angeles, where the entire cast marched.
