The University of the West Indies presents the Sargood Project Valorization of Sargassum Seaweed
Sargood is first and foremost a collaborative project that aims to take advantage of Sargassum rather than run it idle. It was presented on Friday morning at the Henri Mérault Amphitheater on the Fouillole Campus in Pointe-à-Pitre. A consortium has been established between the various research laboratories. It connects the University of the West Indies with the Department of Sciences in Trinidad and the Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse in France, but also two laboratories from Brazil and the 100% Guadeloupean company Zeb

Behind the walls of this laboratory, science is in fusion and Sargassum is its main subject. Here, the seaweed is sliced, dried, packaged, and processed. Many researchers as there are ways to explore.
With the Sargood Project, all avenues for recovery are possible. The project has been awarded more than one million 695 thousand euros. The amount to develop materials or even mosquito repellent. Because such an assessment is already very interesting.
This is also the reason behind the idea of forming such a consortium. It brings researchers and, through them, countries who do not yet know what to do with these invasive species to the shores of several countries in the region. This is exactly what Sargod was designed to do.
Currently, at least ten laboratories are working on possible sargassum recovery products.
Unfortunately, we now know that it is unlikely that we will ever run out of raw materials. Its presence on the shores of the archipelago is almost part of the ordinary. However, we can still hope that everything is done to restore it outside to exploit all these recovery methods.
