The New Zealand government has confirmed that the travel bubble with Australia will remain suspended until at least November 19, due to the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak in both countries.
Non-quarantine travel between the two countries was launched in April, but was suspended in July after the number of cases rose in several Australian states. The suspension was supposed to be lifted on September 24, but will now remain in effect for another eight weeks, with a review scheduled between mid-November and the end of November.
In a statement, New Zealand Minister for Coronavirus Response Chris Hepkins said: “When QFTs (Quarantine Free Travel) were established with Australia, our two countries had very few cases of COVID-19 transmission and a very similar strategy to eliminate the virus. This has changed dramatically. , which led to our decision to suspend the QFT for an additional eight weeks.
