The most important facts about the most expensive series
Season 1 begins on September 2nd with the first two episodes. A new episode will be released weekly thereafter. The season consists of eight episodes in total.
Why?
The makers are jumping a bit further into the past in the series. The story begins more than 3,000 years before the adventures of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins and the destruction of the One Ring and depicts the events of the Second Age in Middle-earth.
At this point, Melchor, the root of all evil in this world, was defeated. But there will be a new enemy that we already know from the previous films: Sauron. The show’s makers summarize in their interview with The Playlist that the chapters cover “all the major stories of the Second Age of Middle-earth – the formation of the Rings, the rise of the dark lord Sauron, the epic tale of Nemenor and the last alliance of elves and people” united.
As in previous productions, not only one person is in danger in Middle-earth. In addition to the elves, the dwarves, the men, and the Harvus (one of the three original Hobbit tribes) have to arm themselves.
What characters do we meet?
Although the characters of “Lord of the Rings” live on later, familiar faces appear in the new adventures due to their immortality: Elf Galadriel (played by Morfydd Clark) and Elf Elrond (played by Robert Aramayo). Gladrill loses her brother in the fight against Melchor. So, you take on his mission and set out to find the new evil.
Fans can also look forward to a whole host of new characters. The Goblin and Ring Maker Celebrimbor (played by Charles Edwards) and Goblin King Jill Gladd (played by Benjamin Walker) are part of the saga inspired by the books of J.R.R. Tolkien. Nazanin Bunyadi, better known from “How I Met Your Mother” embodies the Bronwyn Man. Arundir is another elf played by Ishmael Cruz Cordova. The series is said to feature a total of 22 main characters, each with their own story.
