Under pressure ahead of the last two MotoGP World Cup rounds, Sylvain Andre took care of the basics and won the World Cup general classification, on Sunday in Bogota (Colombia). Despite failing in the semi-finals – in Round 7 – and the incomplete final in Round 8, the Frenchman won the cup.

Regularly throughout the season, a six-time finalist in the eight contested rounds – including success at Papendal in the Netherlands on June 11 – the former 2018 world champion is rewarded for his efforts. This is the second time that Sylvain Andre has won the World Cup after his success in 2017. With 2,537 points, Andre is ahead of American Cameron Wood (2249 points) and Australian Isaac Kennedy (2,117 points).

Other Tricolor was in attendance with Jeremy Rensorell, Eddie Clairty, Mathis Ragot Richard, Arthur Bellard. Not everyone made it to the final despite two encouraging matches in the semi-finals. In the general classification, Jérémy Rencurel finished fifth overall despite missing the last two races.

French youth in good shape

If men of the French elite perform in Colombia, then children under the age of 23 are following in the footsteps of their elders. Led by Leo Garoyan, the young Tricolores manages to tame the Colombian ring. In the seventh round, Garuyan won. Two other Blues were present, like him, in the final with Tatien Loi Hin Tsan, who finished third and Dylan Joubert sixth.

In the general classification of the World Cup, Liu Garoyan (1063 points) outperforms New Zealander Rico Berman (834 points) and his compatriot Tatian Loi Hin Tsan (733 points).

Among the women, France’s Camille Maier failed to reach the final in rounds 7 and 8. She, like her French compatriot, will stop in the semi-finals. In the general classification, the French champion took eighth place. She improved her performance compared to the previous year when she finished 15th overall in the World Cup. First place in the World Cup goes to Laura Smulders of the Netherlands.
