A Japanese billionaire has recruited eight artists from around the world to fly around the moon in 2023 aboard the most powerful rocket ever built.

The eight finalists are American DJ and producer Steve Aoki, American YouTuber Tim Dodd, Czech artist Yemi AD, Irish photographer Rhiannon Adam, British photographer Karim Elia, American documentary filmmaker Brendan Hall, Indian actor Dev Joshi and South Korean singer TOP. Two replacements were also named: American figure skater Kaitlin Farrington and Japanese dancer Mio.

“I hope everyone understands the responsibility that comes from leaving Earth and traveling to the Moon and back,” insists Yusaku Maezawa on YouTube. “They will benefit greatly from this experience and I hope they will use this to bring humans to the planet.”
The flight should last six days, without landing on the moon, aboard the Starship, the most powerful rocket ever built by SpaceX, Elon Musk’s company. Ultimately, the machine aims to become a regular carrier for private customers in space.
