China has just achieved a decisive step in its lunar exploration project. A Chinese probe has reportedly successfully landed on the far side of the moon Information from Euronews.

This mission is the sixth in the Chang'e Lunar Exploration Program, named after the Chinese moon goddess.

This Chinese probe will be the second to return samples, after Chang'e 5, which did so from the far side in 2020.

According to Euronews information, this probe should collect soil and rock samples that could help better understand the differences between the visible and hidden sides of the Moon.

The samples will be transported back in a metal vacuum container to another module in lunar orbit. The container will be transferred to a reentry capsule that should return to Earth around June 25.

But missions on the far side of the Moon are much more complex. This requires a relay satellite to maintain communications.

China still plans to send a human to the moon before 2030.
