Saint-Pierre-lès-Nemours: After school and community area, the leisure center is urgently closed

“I have completely turned around. Handing over three public institutions ten years ago and all of them having to be closed is crazy for a city of 5,600 people! But I am not running away from my responsibilities. I must carry on the legacy of my predecessor… The main thing is that the children are not harmed…”

The mayor of Saint-Pierre-les-Nemours, Bruno Landis (DVD) does not hide his anger. On Friday evening, he permanently closed the only entertainment center in his small town. A letter will be distributed to parents of children who frequent the building. This ranges between 80 and 110 children per day because the site also provides after-school care.

“In a letter dated December 7, 2023, accompanying the findings of his report, the expert wrote to me: This building must be closed immediately and permanently.” According to him, the completely wooden structure has major construction defects. There are metal shoes missing nails, beams that have rotted due to moisture, etc. “It will definitely be torn down,” says the elected official.

The black line continues. Having barely been elected mayor in July 2020, Bruno Landis has heard and listened to the complaints of teachers and parents of students at the Fontaine Sèche nursery. “There is a lot of infiltration, leaks everywhere…” The situation is not much better at the association center next door. Hence the request to carry out a legal trial on all of Gréau’s timber-built buildings which were delivered in December 2013.

“We will succeed in ensuring the continuity of public service,” the mayor promised.

In July 2021, the first shock: a notification ordered the closure of the school and the collective space. Young people are reassigned to different structures near the social and cultural center.

This time, after the emergency closure of the leisure centre, the mayor plans to move it to Clos Saint-Jean as of Monday 11 December. Children will be welcome there, including during the Christmas holidays. “We will succeed in ensuring the continuity of public service. “We are lucky to have staff who are committed to it,” commented Bruno Landis, who also emphasized the “adaptability of teachers.”

The municipality will file a complaint against the project owner and the various professions. “This group of four structures cost 14 million euros. Only the permanently built canteen has been saved at the moment. The municipality’s debts are for this project only, and three-quarters of it is idle.”
