Saint Christophe Fallon. A great success for the 100th edition of “The Thursday Question”

The Fluirack Barn provided the perfect setting for Concerned Thursdays, an association that has been firmly established in Falun since 2009, but chose to relocate to this wonderful venue to celebrate the 100th edition of their monthly conferences and debates. What role can science play in changing course? Today was the question that was to be scrutinized by experts with diverse approaches. A great success for the organizers who received more than 300 people during the afternoon and evening. The first “low-tech” conference, led by Kevin Loesel, gathered an audience curious about the meaning and usefulness of this term in climate change. Next, Pierre de Jovancourt drew up a historical timeline of science to note the evolution towards increasingly energy-intensive technologies. Then François Hereseau explained how to respect the soil in agronomy, the techniques already widespread in order to combine the composition of food and the reduction of energy expenditure thanks to the life of the soil, bacteria, insects, earthworms, fungi … “It is necessary to preserve this life from expensive inputs, pesticides or other pesticides” This agronomist was convinced of the potential of farming when soil life evolved. The evening, hosted by France Inter science journalist Sophie Becquerel, began with a video chat with Orlene Barrot, astrophysicist and doctor of philosophy, on the topic of using science to change course. A philosophical reflection that can lead, through democratic decisions, to use our knowledge to influence nature as little as possible by implementing a positive alternative. Mobilize a listening intervention and then exchange with the audience to clarify the topic and remove ambiguities…or go a step further.
