Russia proposes to build a space station in partnership with Algeria

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s recent visit to Russia included the signing of a number of bilateral agreements between the two countries. Among these agreements is the Algerian-Russian cooperation agreement in the field of space exploration and use for peaceful purposes. Once the space cooperation agreement was signed, the two countries had already agreed to implement its content. Indeed, the Director General of the Russian Space Agency (Roscosmos), Yuri Borisov, visited Algeria last week where he met with the Director General of the Algerian Space Agency (ASAL), Azzedine Oueddik.

The meeting was an opportunity for the two parties to present their space programs and exchange views on methods and axes of bilateral cooperation. The head of the Russian Space Agency said in a statement to the press that the Algerian space program for the year 2040 “allows us to open a new page of practical cooperation between Russia and Algeria in the field of space.”

Russia invites Algeria to participate in the construction of an orbital station

As part of this agreement, Russia invites Algeria to participate in the creation of a Russian orbital station. It was reported by the Interfax news agency, citing the head of the Russian space agency Yuri Borisov. “Russia is offering African countries, including Algeria and Egypt, to participate in the creation of a Russian orbital station,” the head of Roscosmos said after Friday’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Cheese-Fries.

“We talked about the creation of multi-satellite orbital constellations, launch services, manned space, and offered to participate in the Russian orbital station, a whole station, not only for training cosmonauts, but even for creating national units,” says the Russian official. He also said that countries in Asia and Africa, including China and India, are showing serious interest in Russian plasma engines.
