The former First Lady of the United States, Rosalynn Carter, died on Sunday, November 19, at the age of 96, along with her husband, Jimmy Carter, also at the end of his life, the Carter Center announced.

According to the Carter Center, the former first lady leaves behind four children, eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, after losing a grandchild in 2015.

“In addition to being a loving mother and extraordinary first lady, my mother was a great humanitarian in her own right,” her son, Chip, said in a Carter Center statement.

Rosalynn Carter got notice for the work she did after leaving the White House. With her husband, she has advocated for human rights, democracy, and health issues around the world, while remaining remarkably protective of her public image.
