Record sales for the first matches of the Women’s World Cup in New Zealand

Organizers of the Women’s Rugby World Cup (October 8 – November 12) are seeking to rally Eden Park for the first matches of the competition next Saturday, after record sales were confirmed in Auckland. More than 30,000 tickets have already been sold for the first three matches to be played at the 50,000-seat stadium. This is the first time that the competition, which includes 12 countries, has been held in the Southern Hemisphere. This first-game total already exceeds the previous attendance record.

We set out just over a year ago with the bold ambition of setting a new world record to attend the opening match of the Women’s Rugby World Cup in Eden Park.said Michelle Hooper, tournament director. “We broke new ground with this tournament and now we want to see if we can set another record for New Zealand and women’s rugby by filling in Eden Park.»

The previous record was set in 2014, when Stade Jean-Boigne in Paris hosted a crowd of 20,000 for the final, which saw England beat Canada.

The first day of the upcoming edition includes three matches, with England against Fiji and France against South Africa. New Zealand, the defending champions, will face Australia in the final today. The tournament, which was scheduled to take place last year, has been postponed due to the health crisis.
