Once the polls open this morning, we could see a drop in attendance compared to previous referendums. At 12 noon, this trend was confirmed by the rate of participation revealed by the High Commission of the Republic of New Caledonia.
At 12 noon, the estimated turnout was 27.75%. In 2020 at midday, it was 49.40% and 41.81% in 2018. A significant drop. As a reminder, the total number of registered voters for this referendum is 184332 People.
The numbers are fundamentally different from the previous year’s. In 2020, a historic record for turnout was set at midday.
