Outside the Cinema: European Open Air Cinema Tour
Do you love being outside and adventurous – even if it feels uncomfortable and exciting? Then we have a tip for you: the European Outdoor Film Tour, EOFT for short. You virtually travel the world in action-packed, accessible short films. Text: Martin Hausermann
Bored Englishmen sometimes start silly projects. When aspiring rock climbers Tom Randall and Pete Whitaker were unable to travel to Yosemite National Park in the USA due to the pandemic, they looked for a destination on their island and found Exminster Bridge in Devon. They crossed the length of this 763-meter-long highway bridge – suspended at the expansion joint between the two roads. It looks stupid – and it is. But it’s also hilarious that the two Bridge Boys present this hugely ambitious sports project with British humor in a movie that lasts almost half an hour. This movie can be seen at European Open Air Film Tour (EOFT)which will be on the way in Europe until the end of January.
The European Open Air Film Tour has a long tradition
This is a tradition. The Munich Agency has been doing this for over 20 years Moving Media Adventures GmbH is on a mission to see and collect the year’s most exciting outdoor films and bring them closer to an interested audience. This year, the curators of the European Overseas Film Tour have selected eight films between four and 28 minutes in length and compiled into a highly varied two-hour programme. The current edition’s champion is American runner Timothy Olson, who mastered the 4,265-kilometer Pacific Crest trail in less than 52 days – and had to complete about two marathons a day. The resulting film immerses the viewer in Olson’s emotional world and describes his ups and downs during company that make even aspiring runners shake their heads.
Pure adventure kayak down the falls and sail to Spitsbergen
Equally impressive is the photo of French kayaker Noria Neumann, who once competed in Olympic rowing, but now masters waterfalls and rapids with amazing steering skills and amazing maneuvers. Skiers love the story of Céleste Pomeranz and Nikolai Schirmer, who sailed together to Spitsbergen to go on a ski tour.
EOFT 2022 can be watched at more than 60 dates in cinemas and event halls across Germany until the end of January. More information and dates below EOFT website.
