New findings on vaccine risks

Vaccination against Covid-19 is suspected – in very rare cases – of putting people at an increased risk of infection thromboembolic disease and thrombocytopenia.

The first results in the formation of clots in the veins or a pulmonary embolism, if the clot comes to block the pulmonary artery. The second corresponds to a decrease in the number of platelets and an increased incidence of bleeding.

To dig deeper, researchers conducted a study in Denmark, Finland and Norway on Covid vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca laboratories.

The group consisted of 265,339 patients admitted to hospital with coronary artery disease, bleeding disorders, or cerebrovascular disease among 1Verse January 2020 and May 16, 2021.

evaluation:

• AstraZeneca . Vaccine “It increases the risk of cerebral venous thrombosis and thrombocytopenia,” said Professor Jacob Dag-Berild, lead author of the study.
• No significant association was observed between Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna mRNA vaccines.

Date?

The National Agency for the Safety of Medicines (ANSM) emphasized the risks of thrombocytopenia, as well as bleeding disorders, in connection with the AstraZeneca vaccine, in a letter sent in March 2021 to health professionals.

Cases of thromboembolic disease and thrombocytopenia have already been described within 7 to 14 days after vaccination, especially in women under 55 years of age.

But because of the low incidence of such accidents, ANSM reminds us of this “Profits” [de la vaccination] The risks are outweighed, despite the very likely association with very rare cases of thromboembolism associated with low doses of platelets.”

When do you consult?

If you have just been vaccinated against Covid-19, here are the symptoms that should lead you to a consultation if they occur in the hours or days following your injection: “Shortness of breath, sharp chest pain, swelling in the legs or persistent abdominal pain,” ANSM reports.

If, after vaccination, you suffer from neurological symptoms such as Severe or persistent headache, blurred vision.
