The Lord of the Rings films were filmed in New Zealand. But what is claimed to be the world’s largest museum for Middle-earth with its Hobbit Cave and ten other galleries is located in Jenin near Bad Ragaz in Switzerland – about a 40-minute drive from Vorarlberg.

The fantasy epic “The Lord of the Rings” by J.R.R. Tolkien is the founding standard work of the fantasy literature genre, and has inspired millions of films around the world. Filmed by Peter Jackson in New Zealand, the visit remains a dream come true for most European fans.

You don’t have to fly halfway around the world to visit Middle-earth! The world’s largest “Lord of the Rings” museum is located in Jenin near Bad Ragaz in the Graubünden district of Heidiland, about a 40-minute drive from Vorarlberg: Greisinger’s Private Museum.

All visitors are too large to be the typical round doors, but they stand patiently in front of the hobbit cave and wait for the tour to begin: “You can only visit the museum with a ticket you get to tour the homepage,” group owner Bernd Gresinger explains: “You can’t visit the museum at random.”

For three years, Bernd Grisinger collected exhibits from around the world to recreate Middle-earth. The purpose of everything: to get as many people as possible interested in Tolkien’s books. We know that over 90% of visitors have seen movies and almost half have read books. The museum caters to both groups of course, but we want to encourage the other half to pick up the book and learn about Tolkien and his creativity.”
