A Tahiti delegation of four athletes from Papeete and Taravao clubs participated in the New Zealand Championship in the U-17 and U-20 categories.

Among the boys, Dimitri Bono, Luis Marie Sanchez and Gael Michel lost quarterfinal honors due to differences of less than two touches, in the juniors as well as in the juniors.

But among the girls, Laura Tea Louison Grepin made a surprise. Young won the under-17 gold against New Zealand, winning with 15 touches for 14 after trailing 13 for 7.

“I told myself go and have fun, put in as many keys as possible. Gradually, I started putting in three or four touches in a row. So I went up.”says Laura T.

“It was a complicated game.” explains his trainer Arnaud Belanger.

The little girl returned to the fenua with the rest of the delegation and the athletes had already resumed their training.

At the end of June at the Oceania U17 in Australia, a Polynesian delegation of 12 fencers has already shone, winning 17 medals.

The upcoming meetings of the fencing clubs: the Asian Championship in April 2023 in India and Oceania 2023.
