‘Lord of the Rings’ series: Season 2 will completely change Middle-earth – News 2021
The first season of “Lord of the Rings” was filmed on the same location as the films. That should change with season two.
In addition to elves and hobbits, perhaps Middle-earth symbolizes beautiful nature. The main reason for this is the films of director Peter Jackson. He decided to shoot the Tolkien series of books in New Zealand. In order to give a similar look to the new “Lord of the Rings” series, the Amazons decided to shoot on the island. As it is now known, they want to shoot in a different location than in the second season.
Instead of New Zealand, Amazon wants to shoot Season 2 only in Great Britain. Amazon did not announce the reasons for the decision to change the location. But one can assume that the reasons are financial. On the other hand, the studio will provide travel expenses for the cast and crew in the future, as many of the stars come from the British Isles. On the other hand, Amazon is currently said to have generously expanded its studio space in Great Britain. It seems reasonable to rely on the opportunities that are out there in the future.
At least for fans and New Zealand itself, the decision was not well received. The state subsidized production with tax breaks and, of course, managed to book a large amount of tourism from fans of the “Lord of the Rings”. For us fans, we’ll have to wait and see for the first time to what extent Amazon can reproduce the picturesque world of New Zealand. In any case, we hope that synthetic CGI worlds will not be used here and that the series will degrade into a studio single production in the future. At least in Season 1, we’ll see New Zealand again as Middle-earth. This is expected to start on September 2, 2022 on Amazon Prime Video.
