Live – Covid-19: A quarter of hospital admissions were recorded in Guadeloupe and Martinique

The epidemic is slowing down on a global scale

While the Covid-19 pandemic has been gaining strength again since mid-June around the world, it has stopped accelerating this week, with the exception of North America.

According to an AFP report that was halted on Thursday, 643,100 cases of contamination were recorded daily in the world this week. Thus, the index settled at the same level as the previous week.

Thus, the majority of the world’s regions are experiencing slight improvement: -7% of new pollution recorded in Africa, -6% in Latin America/Caribbean, -3% in Asia and Europe.

In detail, Mozambique (-36%, 700 new cases per day) is the country with the strongest decline this week, ahead of Argentina (-34%, 7,200), Colombia (-32%, 3,400), Turkey (-32 ) 16,800%) and Algeria (-28%, 700).

However, the situation continues to deteriorate sharply in the US/Canada region (+11%). Oceania is also seeing a strong acceleration (+20%), but the virus is still spreading relatively little there. In the Middle East, the situation is also deteriorating, but at a slower rate (+4%).

However, it should be noted that the number of diagnosed cases reflects only a fraction of the actual number of infections and comparisons between countries should be taken with caution, as testing policies differ from country to country.
